Cthulhu for Christmas (AUDIO)
Cthulhu for Christmas (AUDIO)
Six accidental tentacles, five naked neighbors, four evil mages, three ugly sweaters, two dead bodies, and one crush on my straight best friend . . .
Some things are simple fact: Santa Claus isn't real and magic doesn’t exist. As a former foster kid turned cop, I know this for a fact. My life is anything but magical and Santa sure as hell never visited me as a kid.
Another fact in my life: I’ve been in love with Grey Criswel, my gorgeous—and straight—best friend, since we met. Unfortunately, he’s not going to make my secret Christmas wish come true this year—or ever.
But before I know it, fact and fantasy are starting to get all mixed up. I thought I knew Old Bay Isle and its residents like the back of my hand. Now I’m dealing with a bunch of naked carolers refusing to put on their damn clothes and mysterious happenings at the lighthouse. Oh, and murder. Because what says happy holidays like a corpse at a Christmas tree farm?
Worse yet, I’m suddenly afflicted with an aquatic ailment of sorts. Namely—tentacles. Six of them to be exact. Attached. To. My. Back. They even have their own opinions. And they all agree they want Grey. Could he maybe want them—and me—back? Things are so topsy-turvy I’m starting to believe the impossible just might be possible because it turns out magic is real after all . . .
Cthulhu for Christmas features Zen King—a cop with a tentacular dilemma, a best friend with a closet full (heh) of secrets, a sharp-tongued former foster mom, a beaver for a roommate, found family, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.

Meghan Maslow’s Cthulhu for Christmas is a delightful blend of holiday cheer and Lovecraftian horror that will leave readers both charmed and thrilled. The story masterfully combines the whimsical elements of Christmas with the eerie and mysterious world of Cthulhu, creating a unique and engaging narrative.
The characters are well-developed and endearing, each bringing their own quirks and charm to the story. The relationship between Zen and Grey is palpable and adds a significant emotional depth to the narrative. Their bond is beautifully portrayed, showcasing a mix of camaraderie, mutual respect, and underlying romantic tension. As they navigate the bizarre and often dangerous events of the story, their interactions provide both heartwarming moments and a sense of stability amidst the chaos.
Zen and Grey’s relationship evolves naturally from the closest of childhood friends to lovers, with their shared experiences strengthening their connection. Their banter and support for each other highlight the importance of trust and partnership, making their relationship a central pillar of the story. This dynamic not only enriches the plot but also provides readers with a relatable and engaging emotional journey.
Meghan’s writing is witty and engaging, making it easy to get lost in the festive yet eerie atmosphere she creates. One of the standout aspects of this book is its ability to balance humor and horror. The comedic elements are perfectly timed, providing much-needed levity amidst the darker, more suspenseful moments. This balance makes Cthulhu for Christmas a perfect read for those who enjoy a good laugh along with their thrills.
It's no secret that I’m a huge fan of Michael Ferraiuolo’s work, and he shows us once again why he is one of the best in his field with Cthulhu for Christmas. I had read this book when it was first released, and to then experience it in audio with Michael’s voices… well it just took it to the next level. Michael is a new narrator to Meghan’s worlds, but from the two books he has done for Megan already I can tell that Meghan Maslow and Michael Ferraiuolo are a winning team!
Overall, Cthulhu for Christmas, whether you enjoy it in book or audio form is a refreshing and entertaining holiday experience that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re a fan of Lovecraftian horror, holiday stories, or just looking for something different, this book is sure to delight and entertain.
Highly, Highly Recommended!
Edited for audio-
Michael Ferraiuolo is so impressive. His accents are incredible and I didn't even think about the number of accents in this book when I first read it. He does an amazing job of making all the characters distinctive and identifiable.
Absolutely hysterical and smexily sweet! I loved this! Grey and Zen are perfect.
In the town of Old Bay Isle, Zen has always felt like an outsider. He just doesn't realize it's not just because he wasn't born there. All set to leave the town and his long time crush on his best friend behind... then the special brand of Maslow craziness ensues.
4.5 stars
Loved it! It kept my attention from the first! I really enjoyed seeing Zen discover the truth of OBI while we followed through his eyes. Low angst but full of mystery, magic, and some danger. This was funny in parts, more like the author’s Charm City series than her Starfig Investigations one. Definitely recommend.
Michael Ferraiuolo did an amazing job. He has a way with accents and it elevated the story!
I read this as an ebook first when it just came out during holiday season. So when I found out that there will be an audiobook in the works, I was really excited about it since I like audiobooks and Michael Ferraiuolo didn't disappoint. He brought Grey and Zen to life and did it really well.
I liked the story. There was some unexpected turns and twists, action, humor and romance that is on par for Meghan Maslow's books. I liked that it wasn't easily predictable. I read a lot of books of various genres and one thing that I always look for is that the book wouldn't be easily predictable.
To my opinion, Cthulhu for Christmas was the most fun read from Tinsel and Tentacles series. I would love to read a story about Jensen and the Detective Saunders and about Remi.
Cthulhu for Christmas is a sweet paranormal adventure. Zen is hopelessly in love with his best friend, Grey. Zen has strong protective instincts that make him a good police officer and even better friend/family member. Grey is an affectionate guy who left his family's wealth to start up a candy store. Together they're very sweet but not very healthy as Zen spends his time pining.
They live on a small island that is full of strangeness. But as the veil between normal and magical is pulled from Zen's eyes, we see that there's a really good reason for that. Most of the story is figuring out what's going on with the island and who is behind a death at the magical tree farm. But there is a lot of holiday and magical details that are so charming they keep the story feeling warm.
I read the story the first year it was out and listened to the audio book this year. It was well worth revisiting the story because the narrator did an excellent job. Especially considering all the character accents.
